Voice Dictation
System-wide voice dictation, on Mac and Windows.
Dictate into any app. Nothing leaves the machine.
What it is
Voice Dictation came out of building the voice notes for Call Notes to Tasks. Once I could talk instead of type there, I wanted it everywhere, in Slack, in a terminal, in a client email, and the tools that do that well are subscriptions that send your microphone to someone else’s cloud.
It sits in the menu bar. Hold the hotkey, speak, release, and the text is pasted straight into whatever window is focused. Transcription runs locally on faster-whisper, roughly ten times realtime on Apple Silicon, so there is no upload and no round-trip wait.
An optional cleanup pass fixes punctuation, strips filler words and applies the corrections you speak out loud, so what lands is the sentence you meant rather than the raw transcript. A frosted-glass overlay shows the state while you talk, listening, transcribing, polishing.
